After being introduced, to wide acclaim, at the Gulf Hotel’s Oktoberfest in September, Hela sauces are now widely available from Al Osra outlets.
“I am really excited that Hela sauces are finally going to be available to everyone in Bahrain,” said mother-of-four Suhaila Habib Awachi from Quraya.
A bit like Victor Kiam, who famously said that he liked his Remington shaver so much that he bought the company, Ms Awachi has been extolling the delights of Hela sauce since she was first introduced to the brand by her German husband, Frank Pollmann, over 20 years ago.
Frustrated by her inability to get anyone to import the sauces, she has now signed a deal with Al Osra to sell the product from its branches here and overseas.
“Hela sauce is renowned in Germany, having been produced by a small family-owned company since 1963,” explained Frank, who has been living in Bahrain for more than 20 years. “Last year, we were looking to add a bit of extra ‘spice’ to the Oktoberfest at the Gulf Hotel, and I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to test the local market. We had people literally queuing up to buy the sauces from us.”
Al Osra will initially stock three versions of Hela’s curry sauce, mild, spicy and extra hot, priced at BD3 per 930g bottle.
