Tim Billa, Phil Sadler and Jason Leighton teamed up to win the Royal Golf Club’s annual Captains’ Drive In with a nett score of 59.5.

Barry Hobday, Stewart Hutchinson, Todd Gillespie and Ben Elsworth were runners-up with 60 nett and husband and wife Peter and Sara Thompson along with Peter Donkin clinched third place on 61.7 nett.

More than 80 members competed in the Texas Scramble tournament which is held annually to mark the official start of the new tenure of the club’s captains. This year Badea Esbai will represent the golfing gents while Anne Quintino represents the ladies. Both captains will act as a liaison between the club management and the members and will also stage fund-raising events throughout the year for their chosen charities, the Bahrain Down Syndrome Society and the Palm Association, respectively.

The two captains made their official drives off the 10th tee and competitors had the chance to buy a flag in advance and use it to mark where they thought the captains’ drives would land. The money raised from the flag sales will go to the captains’ chosen charities.
