DIYAR Al Muharraq, one of the leading urban developers in the kingdom, recently welcomed a Chinese delegation on a mission to find out how the multi-million dinar Dragon City project is taking shape.
More than 100 people toured the site in what was described as a ‘significant visit’ by Dr Maher Al Shaer, Diyar Al Muharraq’s chief executive officer, as many of them were contracted parties who have already signed leasing agreements for various outlets.
“The visiting delegation came to see first-hand the latest construction development and also for the purpose of registering their companies in Bahrain and we are doing everything in our power to assist them with the completion of formalities,” he explained.
Dragon City will offer wholesale and retail opportunities to local consumers, trade customers and tourists. Phase 1 encompasses Dragon Mall and a themed Asian dining street. The mall design is infused with Chinese architectural and cultural aspects and incorporates 782 individual retail store spaces and also an area designated for warehouses.
Construction work on the project is due to be completed by June with the official opening of the mall targeted for September. So far, Dragon City’s occupancy rate has reached 75 per cent and is expected to hit 90 per cent in the next few months.
An agreement was also signed between Bin Faqeeh and Diyar Al Muharraq for the construction of Dragon Apartments. Five multi-storey residential buildings with feature 300 apartments and will provide ‘ideal homes’ particularly for those working in the mall due to its close proximity.
The Dragon City concept was launched in May 2012 as the result of an agreement between Diyar Al Muharraq and China Middle East Investment and Trade Promotion Centre (Chinamex). Gulf House Engineering was appointed for design and supervision, Nass Contracting for construction and Baker, Wilkins & Smith Middle East (BWS) for Cost Consultancy services, while Cluttons were appointed as the leasing agent for the project in Bahrain.
