Bahrain’s golfers are getting ready to tee-off in October at the Royal Golf Club in support of Think Pink Bahrain, the annual breast cancer campaign.

Dressed in pink, men and women will be hitting the Montgomerie Championship course to take part in the 10th Think Pink Bahrain Charity Golf Day, with the aim of raising further awareness and funds for the drive.

Sohail Singh, the club’s tournament co-ordinator, said: “With the help of the local community we would really like to see enormous support for this milestone event.

“The Think Pink Bahrain committee works tirelessly throughout the year to raise money for this very important cause and their annual golf tournament is a key event for achieving their annual target. The money raised this year will be directed to locally-centered breast cancer research as well as to continue the battle to raise awareness of the importance of regular breast checks. I’m looking forward to seeing golfers of all ages and abilities decked out in as much pink as possible and showing their support.”

The golfing event will kick-off at 8am on October 8 with a shotgun start for lady golfers competing in the 18-hole Texas Scramble competition. Ladies with higher handicaps have the option to play a 9-hole scramble at 10.30am on the club’s Mini Monty par 3-course.

The men’s 9-hole tournament will be played under floodlights on the back 9 holes of the Montgomerie Championship course, teeing off at 6pm and also being played in the Texas Scramble format.

The two ladies tournaments will then be rounded off with a lunch and prize-giving ceremony in the club’s Majlis function room.

This is one of the many fundraising events staged in October which is recognised around the world as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Julie Sprakel, the founder of Think Pink Bahrain, said: “We have a number of sponsorship opportunities available for these prestigious events.

“Companies can display their company-branded banner on a golf hole for just BD250 on the championship course or BD100 on the Mini Monty course. This will also entitle them to have their logo on all event signage as well as receiving recognition at the prize-giving ceremony and in all related press releases. We are also looking for companies or individuals willing to sponsor prizes for the main prize winners and for the winners of the side contests and fun events.”
