Club member Abdulla Al Hakam won the Royal Golf Club’s version of the PGA Championship on Friday with a nett score of 207.
Each competitor drew the name of one of the tour golfers playing in the PGA Championship from a hat prior to teeing off in the annual tournament. Their nett score was then added to the gross score of their PGA Championship ‘partner’s’ Thursday and Friday rounds at Whistling Straits to give an aggregate score overall.
Al Hakam’s nett score of 70 was added to his ‘partner’, American Tony Finau’s scores of 71 in round one and 66 in round two to give a combined total of 207.
Second place went to Todd Gillespie who drew Jason Day as his playing partner, adding Day’s scores of 68 and 67 to Gillespie’s 77 for a total of 212. Third place went to Justin Clewley who shot a nett 67 which was added to John Senden’s rounds of 71 and 76 for a total of 214.
“This is a fun format for the players to compete in as they do not know how their professional will do,” said Sohail Singh, the club’s tournament co-ordinator. “It was great to see over 60 golfers competing despite the hot weather.”
