Gulf Weekly Tough victory for Sultan

THE first round of the Audi Quattro Cup Series was a closely fought affair that saw Sultan Al Hakam edge out the competition to take the honours on an extremely humid and gruelling day.

He picked up 36 points on Stableford, just ahead of runner-up Dave Fernie (35 points on countback) and Rob Lane, who finished third, also on 35 points.

Sam Jong Kim won the nearest the pin side contest on the seventh hole, with Hamad Mubarak, Ashley Price and Samantha Hill making the 2’s Club on holes 16, 12 and 2, respectively.

A strong field of 75 players turned out to do battle at the Royal Golf Club despite the soaring temperatures.

The Audi Quattro Cup Series will be played out over a total of nine rounds at the club, with participants accumulating Stableford points over the series. After the final round, the two players with the most Stableford points from eight out of the nine rounds will be selected to represent Bahrain as one of the 60 teams competing in the world finals.

With more than 100,000 players competing in 750 tournaments in 54 countries annually, the Audi Quattro Cup has developed into the biggest worldwide amateur golf tournament series.
