Comedy fans in the kingdom can look forward to two raucous nights of laughter and banter as celebrated comedian Patrick Monahan visits the kingdom next week.

The Irish-Iranian star, based in Teeside, England, will bring his ‘Adventures in Monahanland’ show to the Dilmun Club, Saar, on September 17 and Upstairs Downstairs restaurant in Adliya on September 18.

Patrick’s energetic comedy style, which incorporates a hilarious blend of audience interaction and side-splitting sketches, has proved to be a massive hit with audiences and he can’t wait to showcase his material in the kingdom.

He said: “I’m so excited to visit Bahrain. I’ve just spent a month at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and it’s so cold up there! So I’m looking forward to the nice weather and to see the country again.

“Bahrain is brilliant. I first visited seven years ago when I went round the Gulf region doing shows, and the last time I was here was two years ago for the Formula 1.”

Patrick, who was born in the Iranian city of Ahvaz, has an impressive CV having won British TV competitions such as Take The Mike and Show Me The Funny and a raft of entertainment awards.

His recent stint at the Fringe, his 10th successive year, involved up to five solo shows per day, plus performances of The Double Life of Malcolm Drinkwater, a dark comedy play he wrote about a friendly gentleman who lives a secret life as a hitman.

He explained: “I’ll be bringing my tour show to Bahrain, but I’ll incorporate some of my best stuff from previous tours that people out here might have missed. So it’ll be a ‘greatest hits’ of sorts.

“I like to engage in banter with my audience as well as incorporate my routine, so I hope they’re game!”

Outside of the comedy circle, Patrick is also a Guinness World Record holder for the ‘longest hug’, a feat of 25 hours and 25 minutes he achieved with friend Bob Slayer in 2013.

Patrick explained: “The idea came about because I love hugs and always hug audience members on the way out. I had a day off in the middle of my Fringe run, so during the last show I hugged Bob and we did the whole gig while sharing a microphone.

“Some of the audience knew about the attempt, but others thought it was part of a sketch! We ate and drank over each other’s shoulders and it took us half-an-hour to walk 10 yards because people kept coming over to join in the hug.”

Now Patrick’s witticisms, with free hugs in tow, will be available for the kingdom to enjoy once again.

Shows will start at 8pm and tickets cost BD15. They are available from The Dilmun Club reception, the Virgin Megastore at City Centre Bahrain, and online at tickets.virginmegastore.me.
