The new Volvo XC90 was unveiled at a glitzy ceremony at the Royal Golf Club in Riffa and company executives hope that the model’s combination of design, luxury, comfort and performance will see it emerge as a leading contender in its segment.

The new SUV, which is available as a five- or seven-seater, features an interior designed to ensure a first-class ride. Customers can choose the interior components by selecting from different options such as real wood, carbon fibre, aluminium or charcoal décor panels, leather or Nappa leather, with a choice between one or two-tone design steering wheels.

The XC90 aims to give the smooth, solid ride of an SUV combined with sharp handling and response of a sportier model. The V6 engine, equipped with a supercharger and turbocharger, delivers 320BHP and up to 400Nm of torque, combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Two world-first safety features have been included in this model: a run-off road protection package and an auto brake at intersection capability. On the driver support side, the new Adaptive Cruise Control with Pilot Assist enables safe and comfortable semi-autonomous driving by automatically following the vehicle ahead in stop-and-go traffic. Acceleration and braking are controlled automatically to ensure a safe distance from other cars.

The XC90 is packed with infotainment features, starting with its Volvo Sensus interface. The traditional selection of buttons and controls has been replaced with a smooth, intuitive interaction between a large tablet-style touch screen, controls on the steering wheel and a capable voice-control system so drivers never have to take their eyes off the road.

This is supported by two sound systems by Bowers and Wilkins, which makes for an enjoyable drive every time.

Customers purchasing the new 2016 XC90 will be treated to an all-inclusive offer of a five-year unlimited-kilometre warranty, five years of road assistance across the GCC, in addition to a free service and maintenance package for five years or 100,000km. The package also includes free window tinting and registration as standard.

There are also two purchase options. The full lease option enables the customer to drive the model with zero down payment, full insurance, and no extra costs with monthly instalments starting from BD445 per month. The bank loan option offers the car from BD275 per month.
