Gulf Weekly Bahrain gears up for endurance race finale

The FIA WEC Six Hours of Bahrain makes a grand return to Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) later this year.

The prestigious endurance racing event takes centre-stage on November 20 and 21 at Sakhir. It will be the eighth and final round of the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season.

Bahrain is the WEC’s exclusive destination in the region. This gives race fans a special taste of the spirit of the legendary 24-Hours of Le Mans, which is widely-accepted to be one of the world’s biggest and most challenging races while also being the blue riband event of the annual WEC calendar.

Many of the world’s most prestigious marques in motoring will be represented in the race, including Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin, Audi, Toyota, Nissan and the like.

A number of globally-renowned drivers will also be taking to the track, including ex-Formula One stars like former Bahrain resident Sebastien Buemi, Mark Webber, Anthony Davidson, Vitantonio Liuzzi and Nick Heidfeld, plus celebrity drivers such as ex-Grey’s Anatomy TV star Patrick Dempsey.

The 2015 FIA WEC Six Hours of Bahrain will be Bahrain’s fourth year hosting the endurance challenge and it will mark only the second time BIC is staging the championship finale. The first was in 2013.

The series’ teams and competing drivers are midway through the current 2015 campaign, with the first four races already being held across Europe, highlighted by the Le Mans event at Circuit de la Sarthe in France.

The WEC was recently staged in Austin, Texas for the Six Hours of Circuit of the Americas. The drivers next make stops to Fuji Speedway in Japan in October and Shanghai International Circuit in China in early November before flying into the kingdom for the Six Hours of Bahrain.

The WEC will once again be returning with a massive grid of around 30 cars.
