Mercury is the second most toxic element in nature (after plutonium). Would you want to be chewing on it on a daily basis? If not, why do you have it in your teeth?

Mercury amalgam fillings (the silver ones) have been banned for a while in many Western countries, but it is still being used by many dentists everywhere else, including Bahrain. Dentists use it because it ‘stays longer than other fillings’ and I think also because it’s cheap (although many won’t admit that).

Chewing on mercury on a daily basis has many side effects including allergies, skin rashes, digestive problems, and even depression (like the mad hatters). But don’t just take my word for it, Google it for yourself. What’s even worse is if your mercury filling is old and starts leaking, or if it chips and you swallow it.

So on your next dentist visit, ask for your mercury fillings to be replaced safely (meaning you don’t swallow any in the removal process). The sooner you do it the better. And make sure no more mercury goes into your mouth or your children’s mouths.
