THE thought of being able to walk into a car showroom in Bahrain and drive away a new car for less than BD3,000 would usually be derided as the stuff of fantasy, but it’s now firm reality thanks to the entrance of the BAIC marque into the kingdom.
Motorcity recently unveiled the new offering at its showroom in Sanad while simultaneously launching the BAIC A1 hatchback and sedan models.
BAIC was founded in Beijing in 1958 and is currently the fourth-largest automotive group in China. The A1 vehicles offer a 1.5-ltr DOHC engine which delivers 113BHP mated with a four-speed automatic transmission.
With eagle-eye headlights and wing-like bumpers, the A1 series aims to provide a strong aesthetic appeal within its segment and the stylish exterior suggests a dynamic look to the cars. The combination of beige and black for the interiors enhances the spacious cabin which can seat five passengers comfortably. Standard safety features include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Brake Override System (BOS), Electronic Power Control (EPC), four airbags and rear parking sensors.
Interior comforts include a sunroof, cruise control, leather upholstery, power windows and mirrors, a 6.5-inch touch screen, and a music system compatible with USB, MP3, Radio and AUX.
The starting price for both models is BD2,950 and instalments can be structured as low as BD48 per month. This includes a five-year, 100,000km warranty coverage.
