Most people can recall the first time they connect properly with the driver to see the ball soar down the fairway straight and long. Also many can recall taking a full swing and watching the ball pop up high in the air and for the ball to drop down 10 yards in front of them!
To hit the driver low and straight we have to sweep the ball off the tee. If the ball spends more energy going up than forwards, this would suggest the club is coming in too steeply and goes underneath the ball.
To avoid this try tilting the shoulders at address, so that the forward shoulder is slightly higher than the other and make sure you focus on the back of the ball. Keeping the ball forward in the stance and actually teeing the ball higher both encourage the player to sweep the ball on the upswing at impact.
