Al Azizia Aviaries Birds Kingdom aims to spread the festive cheer by staging a Christmas Market on Friday, for those still looking to pick up the perfect present for the holiday season.

On a regular day, the giant birdhouse located in Amwaj Islands accommodates 70 different species including Bahrain’s national bird the White-cheeked Bulbul. However, the feathered friends are now sharing their home once a month with a variety of vendors including jewellery designers, photographers, bakers and fashion outlets.

More than 1,000 visitors flocked to the first market held in November. Julie Finch, Birds Kingdom’s sales and marketing manager, said: “The market was a great success. We had a fantastic turnout of people through the gates and even had to open slightly earlier because we had people queuing up.

“It’s a good opportunity to combine seeing the birds and coming to the market. This time we will have a face painter, henna artist and our usual kid’s corner activity stall.”

The market will start at 10am to 4.30pm and entry is 500fils for adults and free for children. For more information, contact 16030507 or visit the Facebook page at Al Azizia Birds Kingdom.

The Bahrain Irish Society’s Christmas Party, celebrating 40 years on the island, will take place at the Radisson Blu Diplomat Hotel from 8pm-11pm tomorrow.

A night of live entertainment will feature the Manama Singers, The Leftovers (performing classic Irish tunes), and the Boxtones returning from the UAE.

The Boxtones are returning to their roots hot off the heels of performing to 80,000 people at the Vans Party in the Park in Dubai where they shared the stage with The Parlotones, Razorlight and Stereophonics, the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 Grand Prix where they were on the pre-show bill for Enrique Iglesias, Florence & The Machine and Blur, and closing off the Dubai Rugby Sevens weekend with a slot on the main stage.

When not strutting their stuff on stage, the band members have been writing and recording a debut album through Universal Music. It is due for an early 2016 release and exciting touring plans, including another stopover in the kingdom, are in the pipeline.

Christmas Party tickets cost BD25 for members and BD30 for non-members.
