Actors and a stage crew have been touring the world for the past 20 months and have showcased the play in 159 countries to date. The British Council director, Tony Calderbank, welcomed the cast and crew at a reception on Sunday evening in Adliya.

British Ambassador Simon Martin said: “Shakespeare is probably Britain’s best known cultural export but, of course, so many Bahrainis know Britain so well as well as our culture and literature.

“This is just one area in which I see British and Bahraini collaboration over the course of the year as part of our 200th anniversary of links between the two countries. We will be holding other events to celebrate and build on what we are already doing in the fields of business, finance, education, sport, culture and performance arts.”
