Gulf Weekly Loyal shoppers thrilled with hypermarket’s new outlet

Shoppers flocked to the opening of Lulu Hypermarket’s latest store as convenience proved popular alongside a host of special offers and competitive prices at the new Juffair Mall.

The new outlet, which is the group’s 120th global store, celebrated with a VIP-packed inauguration ceremony in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa.

The Minister of Industry & Commerce Zayed Al Zayani, Labour Minister Jameel Humaidan, Lulu Group chairman Yusuffali M.A., ambassadors, ministers and leading local businessmen were also present.

Residents in the area were thrilled to finally see the retail space spanning 120,000sq/ft open its doors and a party atmosphere was clearly evident last Wednesday. Mr Yusuffali said: “We are very happy that the people of Bahrain have responded so warmly to the range of products, the cost-effectiveness and top quality of Lulu. We are fully committed to our BD100 million investment plans for Bahrain.

“We have more than 1,100 Bahrainis who work with us not only here but in other GCC countries too. Our goal is to provide employment to another 500 people with the opening of our new projects.”

Loyal Lulu customer Ayla De Leon, 30, from Juffair, has been driving past the mall for months in anticipation of the opening. She said: “We have been passing by the building and eagerly awaiting this event.

“When the day finally arrived it was instantaneous chaos. As soon as we drove towards the entrance it was crazy busy. I had never seen so many people excited about a superstore opening.

“I am really happy to have Lulu now just five minutes away from home. It’s really convenient and is great for me as I no longer have to drive my ‘rugrats’ – two-year-old Arabella and four-month-old Ayrton – with me to the Seef area to shop at Lulu. I believe the easy accessibility and quality products will surely attract even more local customers here.”

Housewife Nuha Salah, 31, from Juffair, normally makes the trek to Hidd to visit her favourite store. The mother-of-two said: “Having Lulu here makes my life so much easier. I don’t have to drive to any of the other branches anymore!

“Now I can come by Juffair Mall, pick up what I want quickly and head straight home. I love the shopping concept at Lulu. It has everything from stationery, electronics, clothing and food. It really is a one-stop-shop.”

Since opening its doors in 2007, the UAE-based Lulu Group has expanded across the island and aims to continue expanding with a sixth venue launching soon at Galleria Mall, Ahli Club in Zinj. The group hopes to open two more hypermarkets over the next 18 months.
