After a long, lazy winter, spring is highly anticipated bringing fresh new beginnings and opportunities on the fashion front. The Spring/Summer 2016 runway-inspired look promises to deliver a selection of new trends and a modern twist on familiar favourites.

Bright colours
Get ready to be noticed because the louder and brighter the better with eye-sore colours that pop.

Stripe with style
No matter which way you look there were stripes of all sizes and colours on the catwalk. They went every which way, wide and thin with an array of palettes.

Catch of the day
Netting is on the runway for SS16 and it comes in many forms from skirts with tassels to full dresses. It seems the 1980s have influenced this new trend with black tanks over white and full covers over bikinis.

Slip into something
The slinky and sultry sheen of lingerie is not just for the evening anymore. Not such a bad thing since it’s comfortable and sexy. Just be sure not to literally start wearing your current night frocks. These new styles come in ‘day looks’ that are more modest.

Half-moon bag
Things have taken a new shape and the ‘half-moon’ bag is trending with Michael Kors and other designers making their own versions with different colours and fabric.

Old English
In very modern ways the puffy sleeve has made a reappearance in floral, bouncy poofs and delicate fabrics that are feminine and romantic.

Off-the-shoulder
Exfoliate those shoulders because the ‘off-the-shoulder’ style is now a staple and it is a must-have piece in any form.

Romance
Ladylike lace and feminine grace sauntered on the catwalks with embroidery, florals on white, bohemian bounce, sheer tailored dresses with lace ribbons and delicate flowers.

70s groupie
The groupie band just won’t leave the roadshow and is still hanging on with a mix of prints, chiffon, embroidered flares, suede, vests and fur. Clean, casual separates in rich neutral palettes.

Pretty in pink
Barbie will be proud with pink being one of this spring’s colours in the form of ruffled skirts and dresses. Think 1980s prom with a modern twist.

Low rider
Fashion is about extremes and the high waist has just dipped ultra-low with wide leg trousers slouching with belts and comfortable fabrics.
