Gulf Weekly Al Qutami clinches cup

In glorious weather conditions, Abdulla Al Qutami narrowly edged ahead of a field of 90 golfers to lift the annual Korean Cup at Awali Golf Club (AGC) on Friday.

Al Qutami’s net Stableford score of 40 points was matched by five other players whose final positions were decided under the countback system.

The Korean Cup was first run in the 2013/14 season under the sponsorship of Kwang Bok Kim and his wife, Sang Oak Nam, who wished to find a way of showing their appreciation to the club and its members.

AGC captain Bill Scarth thanked them for their support and generosity before asking Kim to present the prizes to the winners.

Following the prize-giving, members and guests enjoyed a specially-prepared Korean dinner.

Serwin Rampersad’s role as tournament director for the day also received a special mention.

Overall winner: Abdulla Al Qutami (40 points), overall runner-up: Ali Mohammed Al Kowari (40 countback), 3rd: Abdulrahman AbdulWahed (40 c/b), 4th: Jasper Meinema (40 c/b), 5th: Essa Al Quatami (40 c/b).
