Playing in perfect weather conditions, 80 Awali Golf Club members competed for the annual Captain’s Prize on Friday.
Needless to say, there were some high scores and some big handicap cuts, with Jac Parker taking the prize with a fantastic 46 Stableford points.
AGC records show results for this competition dating back to the 1957/1958 season and it is probable it was in existence even before then.
The annual Captain’s Prize is sponsored by, and paid for, entirely by the club captain and he also chooses the playing format. This year was individual Stableford for the main event but he also introduced a more relaxed ‘fun’ event for the non-handicappers.
Before presenting the prizes with his wife, Nicky, club captain Bill Scarth paid tribute to the staff, the members, the course, and the unique club atmosphere for which AGC is so well known. He received a resounding ovation for his words and his generosity.
Players and guests enjoyed a superb home-cooked meal with discussion on which of the Scarth household main dishes were the better of the two. Perhaps the lasagna got the most votes?
