How private are our lives? We live alone with our families and no-one has any information on our actions, or do they?

The trailer for the movie Snowden, has just been released starring Joseph Gordon Levitt as Edward Snowden the NSA whistleblower who revealed to the world top secret US surveillance programmes to alert members of the public of what is being done without their consent.

The NSA and FBI have labelled the suggestion a ‘lie’, but many suggest the proof is evident and it has been hinted that underhand practices are not only situated in the US. For all we know there could be a man staring at us through our camera lens right now?

In my opinion, in an ideal world, a reassurance of our complete privacy would be welcomed. However, I do sometimes wonder if that is the best option for everyone’s safety. There must be good reason behind the watchful eye imposed on some people. The worrying thing, though, is we aren’t even sure who ‘they’ are (the watchers).

Earlier last year it was revealed how US and British spy agencies were able to harvest huge amounts of data – including emails and search history – on millions of people by tapping into internet servers. Surely this undermines the freedoms we all cherish?
