Gulf Weekly Dubai team in Bahrain to play hockey matches

In its bid to strengthen relations within the GCC in field hockey, the Bahrain Hockey Association (BHA) will be hosting the Dubai Hockey Club for a series of friendly matches against sanctioned Bahrain hockey clubs.

The matches will be played on Friday at St Christopher’s School in Isa Town from 9.30am.

As one of the most active clubs in the UAE, the Dubai Hockey Club (DHC) promises to display its team members’ experience and hockey skills against local clubs – Bahrain Hawks, the Hungry Hamours and a BHA Developmental squad.

The BHA developmental squad will feature some of Bahrain’s brightest young hockey talents. As part of its active campaign in promoting youth hockey, the BHA is looking to offer more hockey opportunities and experiences for its passionate recruits.

DHC will be led by its versatile and inspirational captain Sebastian Kolandjian.

DHC chairman Emily Keating said: “Dubai Hockey Club is looking forward to the trip to play competitive six-a-side hockey in the kingdom, courtesy of a kind invitation from the Bahrain Hockey Association. It is great to have the opportunity to play hockey so close to home.”

BHA head Jude D’Souza said the visit by DHC follows a recent meeting with the president of the UAE Hockey Federation, Atiq Juma, to further build relations between the two sporting countries.

He added: “The visit of the Dubai Hockey Club could not have come at a better time. This event meets a critical BHA objective in fostering strong relations with international hockey clubs and federations.”

* Entry is free but limited through a guest list. To obtain an entry pass, hockey fans and spectators can contact the association on 39658618 or email on hockeybahrain@gmail.com
