With the explosion of interest in compact SUVs, it didn’t take long for Japanese marque Suzuki to join the craze, and with the new 2016 Suzuki Vitara, the brand aims to appeal to prospective buyers in Bahrain with its stylish yet affordable concept.
Unveiled in City Centre Bahrain by distributor Mohammed Jalal & Sons, the new look vehicle features an aggressive front, with two LED headlights dissected with a thin chrome grid and the ‘S’ logo front and centre.
According to the company, one of the key design philosophies was to strengthen the aerodynamic functions, and this is evident across the chassis. The previous model’s sharp corners have disappeared and given way to curves on the edge of the front bumper and the side-mirrors, in addition to the slope of the roof line down to the rear, while the bottom of the car is flat to increase airflow underneath.
The Vitara comes in 15 different colours, including three new additions to the range with orange, turquoise and white ivory.
The interior cabin space has received a few renovations too to inject a more youthful spirit, including the analogue clock in the middle of the dashboard with customisable backlighting colours.
A seven-inch touchscreen in the middle of the console plays host to a variety of applications, such as smartphone connectivity, radio, plus USB and music playback.
Performance-wise, the Vitara comes packed with a 1.6L four cylinder engine, capable of churning out 120BHP and doing the 0-100kmph sprint in 11 seconds, with a maximum speed of 180kmph.
Of course, a 4x4 would not be complete without its exclusive features. The Vitara has a suite of off-road capabilities, such as the ‘ALLGRIP’ system to provide a variety of driving styles to suit the occasion. These include ‘Auto’ which focuses on maintaining minimum fuel consumption, ‘Sport’ for winding roads and curves, ‘Snow’ for slippery roads and adverse weather conditions such as sand storms, and ‘Lock’ for when the car gets really stuck in sand, or most likely, in mud.
The Vitara has also added the RBS System, which has a special radar that monitors the road and gives a warning to the driver when any object comes within a certain range of the car’s body, which then automatically applies the brakes. An optional ACC System can also be activated which will control the car’s speed at all times.
The 2016 Suzuki Vitara is available starting from a highly-competitive BD6,600. This includes free registration and insurance, a five-year warranty with unlimited kilometres, free one year road assistance and a courtesy car during any repairs.
