Al Najma Club took home the glory last weekend as they emerged victorious in an Under-12s
charity football tournament held at the Bahrain Rugby Football Club in Janabiya.
In a tense final, Al Najma overcame Tekkers 2-0, whilst Globetrotters defeated Fursan in a
penalty shootout to take third place.
The event was staged to raise money for charities in Nepal, and was accompanied by a baking and
T-shirt sale. Ultimately, BD1,200 was raised.
Paul Vrijhof, the event organiser, said: “We are very proud of the event and its outcome. It
was very successful, not only in terms of the money raised which is fantastic, but because more
than 200 boys and girls had the opportunity to play competitive football.
“With eight teams from Bahrain and two travelling from Saudi Arabia, kids from various
backgrounds got to play with each other and it proved that football truly unites people.
“I’d like to extend my deepest gratitude to our sponsors and the volunteers who took their time
to help out with selling items and general organisation. It wouldn’t have been possible without
them.”
