Gulf Weekly Kettunen wins in style

THE 20th edition of the Nass Medal at Awali Golf Club (AGC) was staged on Friday and, in spite of the absence of many members due to the expatriate school holidays, a large field of 80 players turned out for the competition.

Like most events at AGC, this was a ‘net’ competition played by men and women and the overall winner was Petri Kettunen with a superb net score of 62. The actual medal winner for the best gross score was Diab S Al Noaimi with 70, just pipping Matt Chalmers who lost on countback with the same score.

A special mention should be made of Steve Diaper who managed to live up to that old adage of ‘a game of two halves’ by posting a 63 for the front nine and a 38 for the back!

David Anthony, general manager of Nass Contracting, and his wife, Yvonne, provided a rich array of prizes for the winners and the scorecard draw.

Yvonne and club vice-captain, Kerry Diaper, presented the prizes before David Anthony became a temporary auctioneer, after which he was able to announce that a total of BD730 had been raised for Bahraini charities.

Play was of such a high standard that there were 13 handicap cuts. Serwin Rampersad was tournament director.
