That’s it folks, the end of the expat year is upon us as long, lazy summer days stretch out ahead for the next couple of months.
They’ll be care-free days to enjoy languishing on a tropical beach, siestas aplenty and ‘sundowners’ inevitably become a pre-requisite to dinner throughout July and August! Bliss.
But hey, hang on wait a minute, rewind and come back to reality. The expat summer as we know, is seldom idyllic and to be brutally honest, it can be down right awful.
To quote a fellow expat friend: ‘It’s a hard slog and the return to Bahrain, can’t come quick enough!’
Where do I start, oh yes, here we go … Overnight, after a delightful flight with the sprogs, little sleep and a tad of envy towards the husband being tucked up in bed back in Bahrain, summer starts to kick in.
Thrown in to a whirlwind tour of your hometown, ticking off the family and friends on your never ending ‘must see’ list that all want a piece of you and your children for the summer.
Low betides you if you inadvertently miss anyone off of ‘your’ summer ‘must see’ list!
After all, living out of a suitcase for a couple months, single-parenting, squeezing into spare beds like sardines and managing without your maid … why would we not be dreaming of those long, lazy summer days?
Bon Voyage!
