Is it only me or is everyone struggling to acclimatise to the Bahraini weather after being in cooler climes over the summer? I can’t seem to remember it being this hot last year, yet the temperatures are still hitting the 100s and my frizzy hair is proof of the severe humidity at times!
Yet, the family don’t appear to be suffering with the high temperatures, unlike myself. The husband continues with his mountain of outdoor pursuits, encouraging myself to join him instead of hibernating in my air-conditioned bubble. I ignore him and automatically check the temperature on the nearest thermostat whilst trying to recall when the aircon units were last serviced.
Weekends are the worst, the kids shout ‘Mum are you getting in the pool?’ Guiltily, I decline their offer, claiming that I’ve got ‘stuff’ to be getting on with indoors. But to be honest, I dipped my toes in the pool the day before and I swear it’s hotter than any bath I’ve had recently.
As I listened to the fun and laughter being had by everyone, the husband came bounding in to collect some cold drinks. I asked ‘isn’t it too hot out by the pool?’
‘No, it’s great, maybe you’re going through the menopause?’ replied the husband as he quickly headed back out to the pool.
Menopause? Me, really? Surely, I’m too young?
Maybe.
