Do you ever feel like you just need to escape the sandpit just for a day or two?

Perhaps when you find yourself on the same old treadmill that you just can’t get off of and the family has forgotten how to appreciate you!

Well, take it from me, a wee visit to a different sandpit, may be all that is required – leaving your brood behind to fend for themselves! And, that my friend is exactly what I did! Expat life can certainly provide us with more quality family time together especially during the first year or two in a new posting.

When, suddenly you are thrown in to ‘The Walton’s’ way of life, spending more time together than you did back home because in the early days, you only have each other!

Eventually, you all build new friendships and relationships within your new expat community, which gives us all, some much-needed breathing space.

Yipeeee! Feeling the need to give my family the chance to get by without ‘mum’ for the first time since landing in Bahrain, I didn’t hesitate when invited on a ‘girl’s trip’ to Dubai. I was on that Gulf Air flight before The Husband had made it off the Causeway last Thursday evening … you know what they say, ‘absence makes the heart grow fonder’. I think they could be right!
