A LONG time ago in a galaxy far, far away from Star Wars and its huge fan base, exists a person who had never seen any of the movies before Saturday, namely me, writes Sara Malek.
After the urging of Gulf Weekly’s very own Star Wars super-nerd, Kristian Harrison, I caved and decided to watch Rogue One against my better judgment.
I went into the theatre expecting Jedi and fights involving lightsabers, however I was disappointed as there wasn’t even one in sight.
Aside from the lack of lightsabers, I was impressed with the movie despite being prepared to hate it. Star Wars is a perfect example of how much technology has evolved and thus been allowed to augment the imagination of the audience.
This strikes me as ironic because while Star Wars is full of technology, the plot for Rogue One is very anti-technology.
Despite the fact that technology was created to make humans lives easier, time and again we see it being used for world domination or rather galaxy domination in a Star Wars universe.
My verdict is that Rogue One was enjoyable even for a first-timer, and it made me want to watch the others. If that’s the basis of the film’s success, all that’s left for me to say is: May the Force be with us all!
