Gulf Weekly Hill wins annual Captains’ Day Tournament

STEVEN Hill narrowly won the Royal Golf Club’s annual 2016 Captains’ Day Golf Tournament on count back after tying with Keith Watson on 36 points apiece.

Reinhold Lutz won the second division of the competition, for golfers with handicaps of 10 to 18, with 34 points while Ahmed Majid was a close runner up with 33 points.

The third category, for ladies and those with a handicap of 19 to 28, was won by Iftikhar Butt with 30 points. Jason Leighton took the runners up spot with 29 points.

More than 100 Club members took part in the individual stableford tournament which was followed by the Members’ annual appreciation day, a complimentary poolside barbecue in the Club’s stunning country club gardens.

Barry Hobday took first place in the annual Past Captains’ Quaich, which was played in tandem with the Captains’ Day Tournament, achieving a score of 30 points.

Seven former Club Captains battled it out for the illustrious Captains’ Quaich trophy and annual bragging rights. The Quaich is a traditional Scottish drinking cup symbolizing friendship.
