The winter break is coming to an end now and thoughts for teachers, parents and children are turning to the term ahead.

All concerned should now be ready and refreshed and the last few days of vacation are a good time to reflect on the previous term and build on those experiences to ensure that the new term is as successful and productive as possible.

Teacher Tips

The end of term is a busy time for everyone, so when the end of term bell finally rings, it can be easy for teachers to assign assessments, homework and targets to the past knowing full well that they will be waiting for them patiently when they return to work.

In my experience however, it is always better to get ahead before the term starts by returning to assessments and reminding yourself of what was achieved by the children in your class and revisiting targets that were set.

It is much easier to refresh your memory in the last few days of the vacation, away from the active school environment to be certain that you are up to date and sharp when term begins. This small, focussed amount of preparation can save a lot of time in the first week back and when the term has begun it will make it easier to plan for individual pupil target tracking meetings as the work is already done.

Experienced teachers know that once the Spring term begins, time flies and end of year exams are upon you before you know it.
