A recently-launched studio is inviting painters and like minded creatives to share their love of art in a group setting as part of a new trend called ‘art jamming’ which aims at preventing people from turning into tech zombies.

Art jamming, which is growing in popularity around the world, is when a group of 10 or more people get together to explore the fun of painting. At Arteastiq Social Painting Studio, which is located in Jawad Dome in Barbar, family and friends are being offered the opportunity to experience this therapeutic and liberating activity in a warm and welcoming environment.

According to Kareem Jawad, assistant group general manager of Jawad Business Group, the activity is perfect for all, regardless of age. He said: “Art jamming is an incredible social and engaging activity that is set to increase interactions and bonds between co-workers, friends and couples.

“With a seating capacity for up to 46 guests, it is the ideal venue for events such as corporate team-bonding, children’s parties and even hen nights!” Members of the media were recently invited to try out the experience first-hand and they were given a 50cm x 50cm or 60cm x 80cm canvas, unlimited acrylic paint, sponges, brushes and colour palette.

Also enjoying the session was Sophia Jawad, supporting the family enterprise and unwinding with paint from the stresses of running her own retail businesses. Customers will also be given the same opportunity when booking a space along with a complimentary beverage and they will have a new piece of art work to take home with them later.

Art jamming is also helping busy office workers ‘clear their minds’ of the frustrations of the day and allow them to engage the creative side of their brain to allow it ‘to heal itself’. The aim is to motivate people into taking creative risks.

A spokesman for one group, based in Hong Kong, explained: “We believe it’s a great device for coping with the demands of our busy lives. Almost every day, while we commute or while we eat many people fall face down into a smart phone, tablet or game device.

“In no time, too much tech may turn us all into a new kind of zombie - unable to look at the world as it’s happening right in front of our eyes, unable to communicate except in emoticons and abbreviations.”

The love of art could cure that in Bahrain. A Sunday session, known as the Romantic Blue Date, is aimed at couples with a one-for-one deal costing BD13.500. On Monday the studio stages a True Friendship Day where visitors can come with three friends and treat one of them to a free painting session. Tuesday is Girls Day Out with a special rate of BD10.500. On Wednesday those who attend will receive a free 60cm x 80cm canvas to paint on for BD16.300.

Normal prices are BD13.500 per session and BD49.500 for five classes. The studio is open from noon to 3pm, 3.30pm to 6.30pm and 7pm to 10pm.
