This is a letter of thanks to all those who helped create history in Bahrain on March 17.

Lift Strength and Conditioning Centre and Bahrain Boxing Club would like to extend its most heartfelt thanks to the amazing men and women - locals and expats - who put their trust in us and dedicated 12 weeks of their lives to train diligently to transform themselves from novices into fighters.

Seven bouts from varying weight classes, consisting of pugilists from eight nations provided an insight into the diversity of our club and the willingness of everyone under the banner of boxing to pull together to help create Bahrain’s first homegrown white-collar boxing event.

The event also helped raise funds for various local and international charities, with one fighter raising 3000 euros for her chosen charity.

Along with the white-collar fights, the evening showcased two of the club’s Mulakem (boxer) scholars. The Mulakem scholarship fund enables young and capable Bahrainis who wish to further their journey into the sport of boxing, but are without the financial or logistical means to do so.

The club has covered the cost of training, transport and equipment for its first two scholars, who trained along with the white-collar fighters, culminating in their first official fight. Their next fight will be held in London in June, against boxers from West Ham Boxing Club.

We would like to thank our gracious corporate sponsors, Allied Pickfords, Al Osra, BMMI, DHL, In Touch Clinic, Intercol, Warren Macleod and Royal Bahrain Hospital, and our hosts, the ART Rotana Hotel Amwaj Islands. These companies ensured Fight Night 1, was as close to a professional event as possible, and have ensured a legacy pot has endured for Fight Night 2 to be held on the of July 10.

Here’s to Fight Night 2 and the sport of boxing developing in earnest in Bahrain! Let’s get ready to rumble!

Tariq Abdulrahman,

Janabiya.

AS an art lover, I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the ArtBAB 2017 show at the exhibition centre after being inspired to go after reading about Pamela Arent’s work in last week’s GulfWeekly.

However, I could not help but notice how nature provides its own masterpiece after witnessing the night skies during an electrical storm on the way to the venue. I hope your photographer captured an image to share!

Pamela Armstrong,

Riffa Views.

Editor’s note: Honey Sharma did indeed! And check out the art show  feature on Pages 12 & 13.
