TheLincoln Continental, one of the world’s most iconic cars, is back from the deadwith a fresh lick of paint, a redesigned chassis and a raft of technology updates.
Having been discontinued in 2002, the American motoring staple is back with a vengeance and available now inBahrain after a lavish launch ceremony at the AlmoayyedMotors showroom in Sitra.
Elegance and class ooze off the new model, which is fitting since the car’s long-standing purpose was to carry state leaders, diplomats and monarchs over the decades.
Alex Schaeffer, director of Lincoln Middle East, said: “The new Continental represents the rebirth of a legend and the introduction ofthis sophisticated and stylish full-size sedan ushers in a new era of extravagance from Lincoln, delivering effortless power and a comfortable, relaxing ride to the most discerning clients.”
Innovations include the first-ever door latching system that effortlessly opens the door, to an expansive twin-panel moon-roof that transforms the interior, creating a feeling of airy spaciousness and emphasisingthe understated, quiet luxury.
The E-latch involves simply pressing a button on the door handle to activatethe new microprocessor-controlled E-latch electronic door handle, releasing the door for easy entry, while the available auto-cinch feature secures the door latch when gently closed.
Furthermore, ‘perfect position’ front seats, inspired by those used in private aircraft, have available heating, cooling and massaging functionality, along with up to 30-way adjustability for maximumcomfort.
Other technological features include Approach Detection technology, which sees exterior welcome mats illuminate, and soft exterior and interior lights glowing to provide the feeling of a warm welcome.
The chassis has been redesigned to provide a sleek, elegant look summed up its new one-piece Lincoln signature grille. Under the bonnet, a 3.0L Twin Turbo V6 engine provides378BHP and 575Nm of torque for a mixture of performance and efficiency.
The 2017 Continental will be a popular choice for cruisers thanks to its 19-speaker Revel Sound system which packs a ton of features including Point Source Architecture, Field Balancing Shorting Rings, and auto-adjusting ‘Clarif-Fi’ that matches source quality with the precise level of audio reconstruction.
Safety, as always, is at the forefront of design, and the Continental houses some nifty features to make the driver feel safe. Thebiggest of these is the Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection, which uses radar and camera technology to scan the roadway ahead and, if a collision risk with a vehicle or pedestrian is detected, provides a warning to the driver.
In addition, Active Park Assist will steer your vehicle into a parking space, while a new available 360-degree camera system allows the driver tosee around the car when in reverse.
Finally, Adaptive Cruise Control automatically slows the car if it senses danger, resuminghigher speeds when traffic clears. The system activates the brakes automatically to bring the car to a complete stop if the driver fails to apply the brakes in time.
The car has already impressed VIP visitors, including US ambassador to Bahrain William Roebuck.
Zaid Hamed, general manager of AlmoayyedMotors, said: “We are thrilled to offer the much anticipated rebirth of the Lincoln Continental to our customers here in Bahrain. It is a superbvehicle that will win the hearts and minds of luxury buyers from first glance, let alone from first experience, whether they’rein the front seat or the back.”
