What a catch! Seafood lovers can indulge in their favourite fare as one of the kingdom’s top dining destinations empties its nets to display a lavish bounty.

A new seafood night is being staged every Thursday evening at the Crowne Plaza Bahrain’s marvellous La Mosaique restaurant and French Executive Chef David Miras and his team are conjuring up an impressive buffet of delicate delights, alongside live cooking stations.

The hotel boasts a popular a la carte seafood restaurant called Waves but staging a special seafood night at its bigger venue allows the chefs to offer a sizable spread and cater for a greater number of diners on this popular night out.

Judging from the buzz of excitement conjured up last weekend it’s a concept that is obviously paying off and the variety of seafood dishes and the exquisite delivery of the dishes will make it even more of a draw.

The sushi selection is also a great temptation to start the night with combinations of fresh seafood and Japanese rice ball concoctions and these were divine, and proved to be a delicious and delicate way to start the evening.

My daughter Imogen, visiting for Easter from London, even managed to stop staring into the eyes of her sweetheart Arron for two minutes to place a piece of sushi in his mouth. I’m keeping a check on him and chef has given me a pair of sharpened chopsticks just in case they’re needed.

It was a case of having to pace yourself because there were so many choices available. The Malaysian-inspired Laksa Soup was superb. What a clever concept. You pick up your bowl, fill it with a mixture of prepared fish, vegetables and noodles and then pour over a heavenly broth made with a combination of lemongrass, chilies, shallots, turmeric, ginger and dried shrimp all blended up for posterity with coconut milk.

Just perfect, a taste of sunshine if ever there was one … and then be prepared to feast on whatever takes your fancy.

There’s Singaporean Chili Crab, Shrimps Kabsa and Seafood Thermidor, a classic French dish consisting of a creamy mixture of cooked lobster meat and egg yolks, stuffed into a lobster shell.

For those who prefer something a little hotter, the seafood covered with schezwan sauce proved to be a fiery, spicy affair thanks to a combination of dry red chilli, garlic and sauteed onion.

My Bahraini friends were spotted heading straight for the local favourite, grilled hammour in a luscious leek sauce, as the good lady wife, Kathryn, concentrated on some mightily marinated mussels.

I headed for the Mongolian Buffet section when diners can create their own stir fry cooked at the live station by the chef as you wait and spotted some dim sums are being created close by.

I was soon ready for the fresh fish station, where you can pick your fish from the counter and ask for it to be grilled, fried or steamed in any cooking style you may wish. My selection of hammour, baby shark and salmon arrived a few minutes later to the table in perfect splendour.

If your heart is in the ocean, make Thursday night at Crowne Plaza Bahrain’s La Mosaique a date in your diary. It costs BD20.550 net and there are special beverage packages available.
