Gulf Weekly Silver salver served

The Infonas-sponsored Watson Salver was keenly contested last weekend at Awali Golf Club with Rashaid Al Qatami winning the top prize and Nicky Park, coming in best overall runner-up and top lady player.

Both players were delighted to walk away with a brand-new set of golf clubs presented by Infona’s MD Hamad al Amer and club captain Bill Scarth.

The Watson Salver competition has been played at AGC for nearly 60 years, since 1959 when the then club president and Bapco Refinery superintendent, Noel Watson, presented the salver for an annual competition.

Very high winds gave rise to some impressively high scoring, with players finding themselves in previously little known parts of the sand course. Such tough conditions gave rise to an unusual +1  Competition Standard Scratch. With this and the added difficulty of the bogey format, only six players in a field of 80 actually ‘beat the course’

The final results were: Overall Winner: Rashid Al Qutami (+3), Overall Runner-Up and Best Lady: Nicky Park (+2), 3rd Place: Essa Al Qutami; 4th Place: Ebrahim Al Hashel, 5th Place: Jeff Barrett, 6th Place: Henrik Wessels, 7th Place: Mario Carangan Jr, 8th Place: Adnan Al Sowaidi, 9th Place: Ali Al Khowari, 10th Place: Dave Bailey.
