I was thrilled the other day, whilst waiting with our Labrador in the vet’s waiting room. I’d struck up a conversation with a rather elegant lady who was sat with her beloved cat.
If you ask me, waiting rooms in a doctor’s surgery, hair salon or dentists aren’t quite the same but put a pet in the equation and straight away there is a common bond, along with a mutual appreciation of our four-legged friends.
By now, I was in full description mode as I’m explaining my dog’s ailment in great detail to the cat lady. I was just getting to the crux of my dog’s woes when she stopped me mid-sentence with: ‘are you Morag from the GulfWeekly?’
I was dumbstruck, lost for words and for anyone that knows me - that doesn’t happen too often.
I had stumbled across a keen follower of my weekly column - at least I now know that one person has been reading it, apart from the husband!
Writing, you see, is something I started when I first became an expat wife. It soon became my passion and my lifeline to friends and family back home.
Before blogs appeared on the scene, I was writing a diary about my daily ‘ups and downs’ of a newbie expat many miles from home. Soon, I was sharing my tales of a trailing spouse on a weekly basis with friends around the world. But never, ever did I think I’d see my words in print!
It’s been a blast!
As a new project beckons, Morag must say cheerio for now. Shukran.
