The Royal Golf Club’s 2017 Ladies Captain Stacey Thomas has managed to gather an array of signed sports memorabilia which will be auctioned off for charity after the third annual Ladies Captain Charity Golf Tournament, taking place at the club on Friday.
Items set to be auctioned include a TaylorMade M1 driver and golf ball signed by 2017 Masters Champion Sergio Garcia, as well as an autographed Tiger Woods trading card set alongside a framed photo of the man himself.
A commemorative 2017 US Masters ‘Arnie’s Army’ badge, issued in memory of the recently departed Arnold Palmer, will also be up for auction, along with many items of official US Masters merchandise.
“I am very grateful to one of our members, who wishes to remain anonymous, for donating such a wonderful collection of items for the auction,” said Thomas. “He is a very keen golfer who has made the trip to Augusta three times to watch the US Masters live, and has very kindly brought back all these golfing treasures this year which will greatly help our fundraising efforts.”
All the money raised from the Ladies Captain Annual Charity Golf Day will directly benefit patients receiving treatment for cancer at Salmaniya Hospital.
“This is a cause that is very close to my heart as I have many friends and family members who have fought or continue to fight cancer,” added Thomas.
“After speaking to Doctor Aesha at the Salmaniya Hospital oncology department, we decided the money could best be used to host fun activities to try and relieve the tedium for patients receiving cancer treatment and re-energise them for continuing their fight against the disease.
“We hope to hold beach days, poolside days and organise visits to Bahrain attractions such as Al Areen Wildlife Park for patients of all ages.”
The title sponsor of the third annual Ladies Captain Annual Charity Golf Day is Aviation Commerce & Capital while the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) has come on board as a gold sponsor.
The 18-hole golf tournament will tee off at the Royal Golf Club at 1pm and will be played in the fun Florida Scramble format. The afternoon’s golf will be followed by a BBQ with entertainment, a raffle draw and the charity auction. Also set to go under the auction hammer is the opportunity to enjoy a dinner-for-two cooked in your own home by the club’s Executive Chef Paul Gindra.
The raffle draw’s main prize, sponsored by Reza Hygiene, is flights and accommodation-for-two to Dubai with golf at one of the Troon-managed golf properties.
Other raffle prizes include golf playing vouchers from other UAE golf courses, meals at some of Bahrain’s top hotels and beauty treatments from Purple Patchouli, to name just a few.
Entry into the golf tournament costs BD30 for club members and BD40 for non-members.
Those wishing to attend the evening BBQ and auction only will pay just BD20 per person.
Anyone wishing to support the event, either by participating in the tournament, attending the evening auction or by sponsoring a prize or golf hole is invited to contact Thomas by email staceykthomas@gmail.com
