Gulf Weekly Youth Talk

More than two weeks have passed since the beginning of Ramadan and the squanderer in me has fully enjoyed the many evening discounts offered by food outlets! I am eagerly counting days to Eid and my brother and I have been decorating our house and planning the celebrations.

The streets and malls of Bahrain alike are illuminated, not only by the lights and spangles, but also, the sense of purpose and resolve. In many ways, one witnesses the unity and spirit of the people living here. It was such an observation that strengthened my belief that when we have a common intent, our aims are well in sight.

With the festivity and excitement, this Ramadan has also brought to us another opportunity to work towards peace and harmony, in solidarity, shedding our skins of religion. It is a time when we all can give and care for those who are less fortunate than ourselves. In giving, caring and non-violence lies the true essence of humanity.

With the global unrest and unfortunate calamities consciously inflicted by men, it is time we pick up our knapsacks of responsibility and think and introspect to become better individuals for a better world.

We needn’t worry, humans are a competitive lot. Perhaps we could compete for peace.
