Major adjustments to the practice area at the Royal Golf Club have been completed and it should be ready for action in a few weeks’ time.

The club’s agronomy team has been busy working to enhance the short game practice area including the addition of a second bunker and the merging of the two greens into one large green.

“The practice area used to get very crowded on weekends,” explained Will Evans, director of agronomy. “Also the bunker, which was quite a distance from the green didn’t replicate anything you would find on the actual golf course.

“We have therefore enlarged the putting area by an additional 500sqm and created two separate bunkers closer to the green.

“The grow-in of the new grass is coming along nicely and we hope to re-open the area in early to mid-July.”

In the meantime, golfers wishing to practice their short game are still able to use the practice area located close to the first tee of the Montgomerie championship course.

In addition to giving golfers more space, the new and improved practice area will also be used by the club’s team of PGA teaching professionals for junior putting competitions and corporate team-building activities.
