Gulf Weekly Gala auction date!

Gulf Weekly Stan Szecowka
By Stan Szecowka

ALL EYES this weekend will be on The Terrace at ART Rotana, Bahrain, the stunning seaside resort hotel on Amwaj Islands, which will host the first Jeans For Refugees fundraising auction gala in the GCC in support of refugees worldwide, writes Stan Szecowka.

Jeans donated by Victoria Beckham, Julio Iglesias, Jad Choueri, Eva Longoria and Samira Said will go under the hammer - all hand-painted by international fashion designer Johny Dar who will be in attendance.

Profits from the auction will be donated to the International Rescue Committee’s (IRC) initiatives supporting refugees worldwide and guests will be treated to live music from chart-topping Lebanese singer, Jad Choueri, best known for his Arabic hit Oully Ezay and the English recording Funky Arabs and accompanying video which received more than a million views on YouTube.

Also under the hammer will be global music icon Elton John’s Dar-inspired jacket, which has caused quite a stir with guests at the hotel. “We are pleased to be part of the Jeans For Refugee initiative that is dedicated to helping refugees around the world,” said Lilian Roger, general manager of ART Rotana, holding the Versace masterpiece.

“With proceeds going to the IRC, we hope our collaboration will raise much-need funds and provide opportunities to inspire people to support the initiative and help deliver lasting change.”

Scores of international celebrities from the film, art, fashion and music industries have donated their denims to Dar, who has transformed each pair into a unique wearable art-piece inspired by their characters and personalities.

A new Jeans For Refugees glass and sand installation, recently showing at MODA Mall, as highlighted in last week’s GulfWeekly, has been designed especially to reflect the climate and the conditions that refugees in the region endure.

Each piece currently on display and up for auction on Saturday will be available to buy with its own complimentary glass and sand display stand included. Quite simply, these pieces will take pride of place in any gallery, home, office or showroom – private or public,  or can be given as a meaningful, unforgettable gift.

Owning a pair of Jeans For Refugees is more than owning an art investment or a celebrity treasure - it is safeguarding a symbol of hope for a brighter future for humanity.

Dar will also be performing two tracks off his coming debut album, Untitled, the world premiere of his music, at the gala starting at 7pm.
