Acknowledging the role of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Medical University of Bahrain (RCSI Bahrain) in international medical education, the name of the university’s president, Professor Sameer Otoom, has been added to the list of highly-respected and distinguished medical professionals inscribed on the Wall of Honour of the Royal Society of Medicine in London.

The Royal Society of Medicine was established in 1805 as a medical and surgical society in London, and was granted a Royal Charter by King William IV. It was expanded and given a second Royal Charter by King George V and Queen Mary in 1912.

Professor Otoom acknowledged the important role of Bahrain and RCSI in international medical education and expressed his happiness with the great distinction, particularly when the name of Bahrain was also inscribed on the Wall of Honour.

I’m a freelance writer, playing mummy since 2012 and winging it as a trustee for a women’s empowerment group.

Being a full time mum is tough and BORING! Yes, you heard me right, boring.

I have the food boiling on the stove, clothes spinning in the washing machine, a one-year-old glued to my leg and a fruit pack rubbed evenly on my face. All the mum and housewife duties are on track but my soul and the little grey matter left in my mind yearns for much more.

I want a kick - definitely other than the one aided by caffeine and the hop back in my gait. Would a twinkle in the eye be too greedy a demand to make?

The thought-provoking matter is that I am not alone in this dilemma. Hundreds of housewives yearn to have some quality time, a judgement-free few minutes filled with hearty laughter, giggles or mindless ranting. What is the solution? Take a long nap, change the smelling Pamper or learn to rest in peace in the routine of boredom. A perfect mum … a bored housewife.

Boredom is a ... vital problem for the moralist, since half the sins of mankind are caused by the fear of it - Bertrand Russell .
