SHOPPERS at one of Bahrain’s leading malls benefited from a regional heart health initiative held last weekend, as part of the World Heart Day.
As highlighted in last week’s GulfWeekly, the annual ‘Feel the Beat’ campaign, aimed at raising awareness about cardiovascular diseases, offered complimentary heart health check-ups for women at City Centre Bahrain’s central galleria.
The initiative was co-ordinated by Majid Al Futtaim in the Middle East with 19 malls taking part in Bahrain, the UAE, Lebanon and Oman. The campaign was being held in association with the Mohammed Bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa Cardiac Centre.
A dedicated ‘Doctor Consultation Counter’ also offered complimentary on-site consultations and check-ups.
Hundreds of visitors took the opportunity to get their blood pressure, blood sugar and body mass index checked to determine if they were at risk of heart disease and if they need follow-ups for more extensive examinations.
Senior mall manager Duaij Al Rumaihi said: “It’s part of our commitment to create great moments for everyone every day and as part of our corporate social responsibility towards the community.
“There’s a myth that men are more prone to heart disease. That’s why we’re doing this, so that women are aware of the danger too.”
Many women shoppers followed the campaign and pledged to do more for their hearts by visiting the mall’s website and social media activities by using the #signwithyourheart and #FeeltheBeat hashtags.
