Medic students have helped allay the fear some children suffer when seeking treatment. The Arabian Gulf University staged an ‘AGU Teddy Bear Hospital’, organised by the College of Medicine and Medical Sciences recently at Enma Mall in Riffa and attracted hundreds children.
The campaign aimed to break children’s concerns over doctors, hospitals, medicine and vaccinations by creating a fun environment in which they played the role of doctor, while a teddy bear took on the part of a patient.
A team of academics, paediatricians and medical students guided the youngsters on how to conduct the required ‘tests’ on their teddy bears.
The campaign also aimed to enhance the skills of students of the College of Medicine at AGU in dealing with society and utilising their energies in its service.
Of the 432 children, aged four to 12, polled after the free session, 83 per cent said they would now be a lot happier when faced with a real life situation.
That’s just what the doctor ordered!
