One of the kingdom’s leading healthcare medical centres has added a homeopathy clinic to its multifaceted facility to offer patients a more natural way of healing illnesses.

KIMS Bahrain Medical Centre (KBMC), which belongs to the India-based KIMS Group that has a strong foothold in Southern India and the Gulf, has been caring for the community since opening its doors in 2004.

The centre, which is situated in Umm Al Hassam, started off with two doctors and by the end of its first year expanded its operations to feature nine departments.

Now KBMC includes 15 departments and features a group of nurses and doctors specialising in a multitude of fields. It also has OPD (out-patient department) rooms, a number of treatment rooms, a pharmacy, and a Minor OT (operation theatre) as well as the newly launched Dr Batra’s Homeopathy Clinic.

Dr Mukesh Batra, the founder and chairman of Dr Batra’s Group of Companies which has more than 225 clinics in 130 cities across India, UK, UAE, and Bangladesh, told members of the media and invited guests during the unveiling at the centre that he is delighted to be venturing into Bahrain and partnering with KBMC.

Dr Batra, who has been practicing homeopathy for more than 42 years, said: “With this launch we have further strengthened our presence in the region. We have four clinics in Dubai and this is our first in Bahrain and the fifth in the GCC. We are planning to open a clinic in Abu Dhabi next month as well as launch clinics in Qatar and Oman in the future.

“But for now, we are very excited to be in Bahrain as we have been working on this partnership for the past two-and-a-half years. We are looking forward to spreading our expertise to the people here and giving the country a strong, professional and complimentary system of medicine.”

Homeopathy, a medical science developed by German physician Dr Samuel Hahnemann based on the principle of ‘like cures like’, is a system of natural healthcare that has been in worldwide use for more than 200 years. It treats each person as a distinctive individual with the aim of stimulating their own healing ability.

Dr Batra added: “There are two different streams of medicine. Allopathy is chemical medication. It is treatment of disease by conventional means. Homeopathy helps you build natural immunity and it’s holistic. It treats the mind and body together.

“Over the past nine years, we have seen a steady rise in the demand for alternative medicines. Complementary medicine works hand in hand with conventional medicine providing options for patients to opt for holistic healthcare.”

It is recognised by the World Health Organisation as the second largest therapeutic system in use in the world. While it is most popular in India and South America, more than thirty million people in Europe, and millions of others around the world, also benefit from its use. France is the largest contributor to homeopathy in the world followed by Germany. In England, the Royal family has used homeopathy for three generations. The Queen has carried her ‘black box’ of ‘white pills’ on her travels. It has been estimated that more than 6 million people in the US use homeopathy for self-care, and day-to-day health problems.

In India, more than 100 million people depend on it for health issues. There are around 200,000 registered homeopathic doctors, and approximately 12,000 new homeopathic doctors are registered every year.

It has also shown remarkable results in treating some of the common complaints prevalent in the GCC such as diabetes, obesity and allergies. Women in particular are increasingly opting for this type of treatment, especially to cure a variety of ailments during pregnancy, as it provides natural healing options without harmful side-effects.

Dr Batra said: “One of the reasons this system is so popular is because people are aware of the side effects and want safer alternatives. Also, people are fed up of temporary treatments. They want long lasting treatment.”

Homeopathy is known to cure various types of acute and chronic conditions such as arthritis, autism, allergies like coughs, colds, flu, atopic dermatitis, asthma, backache, bald patches, constipation, cramps, diarrhoea and digestive problems. It can also treat epilepsy, ear pain, fevers, gastric problems, headaches, hair fall, infections, irritable bowel syndrome, intestinal complaints, injuries, jaundice, kidney problems, liver problems, lung complaints, menstrual complaints, nerve problems, paralysis, psychological problems like depression and sadness, rheumatoid arthritis, skin problems, toothaches and all types of burns.

Currently, Dr Jayasree A, who has a bachelor in homeopathic medicine and surgery, will be manning the clinic and taking care of patients. She has more than 17 years of clinical experience and is certified as a Doctor of Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

She has been with KBMC for the past 12 years and has been trained by Dr Batra’s Clinic on how to deal with difficult cases. The Clinic is open from 9am to 1pm and from 4:30pm to 8:30pm daily, except on Friday.

Ahmed Jawahery, KBMC’s chairman, said: “We are happy to partner with Dr Batra’s and this collaboration will empower our patients and give them the option to choose a treatment of their choice. This is just the beginning of our association as we will later scale this association to Royal Bahrain Hospital as well.”
