Khalid Mohammed of E Kanoo Racing set a new world record to highlight an exciting third round of the 2017/2018 Bahrain Drag Racing Championship at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in Sakhir.
Competing in the Pro Mod category, Mohammed’s Pro Boost Lexus RCF set a new Pro Boost 1/8th-Mile Record of 3.592 seconds.
Mohammed set his mark during Qualifying and unfortunately could not follow it up with a victory on Race Day. He eventually had to settle for the runners-up spot as Turki Al Humaidy clinched first place in the final with a 3.648s pass. Mohammed ran a 3.880s time.
Meanwhile, several Bahrainis were triumphant in their competition categories. Mohammed Al Jalahma won in the Street 4 and 6 ahead of Ali Abdulla. Jalahma clocked a winning time of 9.918s down BIC’s quarter-mile strip in the final.
Mohammed Bin Hasher followed suit in the Outlaw FWD class. He had a time of 8.472s in the final to beat Ali Yousif’s 8.970s.
In the Super Street 6-Cylinder, Nawaf Al Manai was victorious against Ahmed Al Balooshi in the final. Al Manai had a run of 7.085s while Al Balooshi clocked a 7.467s pass.
Yousif Al Zayani triumphed in the Outlaw 6-Cylinder category with a winning time of 7.485s in the final. Jassim Zaman was his rival and he could only manage a time of 7.542s.
Adel Khamiri won in the Street V8 class with a 7.863s run ahead of Jalil Abdulhussain, while Turki Khalid claimed the number one classification in the Super Street V8 with a 4.589s pass to beat Mohammed Qasem.
In the competition 4.5 category, Ahmed Al Jheel won in 4.504s while Ali Haji was the runner-up in 4.561s. Abdulla Al Shamsi did the same in the Outlaw 10.5, winning in 4.313s and defeating Nabeel Al Essa who red lighted his final run.
Elsewhere amongst the cars classes, Ebrahim Khalil won the Index 10.5 ahead of Rashid Al Rumithi, Abdulwahab Ahmed triumphed in the Index 9.5 against Khalid Abdulkarim, and Sayed Al Hadad beat Adnan Dhaif in the Index 8.5.
In the four classes for motorbikes, Waleed Al Badeen won the Street Fight Bikes category ahead of Ali Braham, Ahmad Alarrouj clinched the Street Bikes after beating Khaled Al Doseri in the final, Mesfer Almesfer beat Mishari Al Turki to win the Super Street Bikes and Bradley Dale claimed the Pro Bikes victory ahead of Yaqoub Al Ali.
Around 180 participants took part in the third round. At the end of Race Day, the winners were honoured in a podium ceremony attended by officials from BIC, Bahrain Drag Racing Club, Bahrain Motorcycle Club and Bahrain Motor Federation.
The 2017/2018 season features five rounds in all. Following round three, the final two meetings will be held on back-to-back weekends, with round four scheduled from February 27 to March 2 and then the season-finale set for March 6 to 9.
