Gulf Weekly Series success goes regional

The Bahrain Superbike (BSBK) Championship made its debut in Dubai last month, and it proved so popular that the series returned to the UAE again last weekend.

BSBK was the first Bahraini-owned championship to spread across other circuits in the region when Round 4 tour took place in Dubai, and Round 5 also proved a roaring success at the Dubai Autodrome.

With the riders getting familiar with a new track and riding conditions, this was the most exciting round yet. The competition was intense and standings saw further shuffling as Ahmed AlMuyini (KSA) took the winner’s trophy in Race 1 followed by Djion Compton (UK) and Fahad Al Gharbally (Kuwait). Djion Compton took the chequered flag in Race 2 with Ahmed AlMuyini and Wesley Pearce (UK) in second and third.

Hussain Al Kooheji, co-founder of Motogulf, BSBK’s parent company, said: “This round was the most interesting round of BSBK so far, in my opinion. We have seen an absolute shuffle in standings and this has been an outstanding experience for all with the backdrop of thrilling racing.

“Racing on different circuits in the same season has been a very exciting concept for us and the riders. We are glad we have been able to execute this well and hope to take BSBK to more circuits in the coming season.”

The final and concluding round of BSBK will also be held in Bahrain on April 20.
