Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) will today start hosting official pre-season testing over three days for the FIA Formula 2 Championship.
The tests are part of the series’ preparations for the 2018 season and it appears officials have decided to settle for sunnier climes after F1 testing in Europe was ruined by bad weather.
All 10 Formula 2 teams are scheduled to be taking part in the Sakhir sessions. The new season will be flagging off in the kingdom, in support of the Formula 1 2018 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix from April 6 to 8.
There will be two races during the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend, with a feature race on Saturday followed by a sprint race on Sunday.
The 2018 campaign has 12 rounds, with each meeting running in conjunction with a F1 race. There will be 20 cars on the grid representing 10 teams. Drivers’ champion, Monegasque Charles Leclerc, has since joined F1 team Sauber and last year’s teams’ champions, Russian Time, will be aiming for glory again with the 2017 drivers’ runner-up Artem Markelov occupying the No 1 car.
