Gulf Weekly US burger chain plans expansion in kingdom

Famous US family gourmet burger chain, Five Guys, has opened its first casual dining restaurant in the kingdom at The Avenues, Bahrain with a second outlet to be unveiled within five months in Juffair, followed by another near the airport in Muharraq.

Five Guys, which focuses on comfort food like burgers, hot dogs, French fries and milkshakes, was founded in 1986 by Janie and Jerry Murrell in the US State of Virginia. Jerry and the couple’s sons, Jim, Matt, Chad, and Ben, were the original Five Guys. The couple had a fifth son, Tyler, two years later.

Today, all five sons, the current Five Guys, are involved - Matt and Jim travel the country visiting stores, Chad oversees training, Ben selects the franchises and Tyler runs the bakery.

They now boast more than 1,200 locations across the US with a further 1,500 in development.

Cravia Inc brought the concept to the GCC two years ago and has 20 Five Guys already in operation. Marwan Kandeel, regional brand manager, Cravia Inc., which has Lebanese wraps, coffee shops and ice-cream outlets too, said: “We decided to enter the Bahrain market for the first time with an iconic name.
“Five Guys is so popular because we concentrate on the quality of customer service and the food – we don’t even have a freezer on the property
