PLANS are in full swing to stage the 21st anniversary edition of The American Mission Hospital (AMH) Island Classic charity golf tournament, one of the most popular events on the sporting calendar, and already businesses are showing their support.
CrediMax have once again stepped forward as platinum sponsor of the tournament which is set to be held over three days in November at His Majesty King Hamad’s private golf course in Saffriya.
A BD 10,000 cheque was presented by Yusuf Mirza, chief executive of CrediMax, to Dr George Cheriyan, corporate CEO of AMH. Also present at the event was group CEO of AMH, Julia Tovey.
Dr George said: “We are both delighted and humbled that organisations such as CrediMax continue to support the AMH Island Classic charity golf tournament. Despite 20 years of the event, the magic of His Majesty’s golf course refuses to wane for avid golfers.”
The funds raised in recent years have been channeled towards providing free medical camps around the kingdom under the hospital’s renowned community outreach programme, said Julia.
“Having covered a major milestone of the event last year, it is such a pride to continue to host this exclusive golfing event under the patronage of His Majesty the King. We thank all the sponsors who have been with us, especially CrediMax who have been our top sponsor for many years.”
As reported in GulfWeekly, The AMH held a gala dinner at The Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa to honour more than 40 organisations for their support towards last year’s Island Classic.
The event concluded the successful annual golfing extravaganza which raised BD70,000 towards the not-for-profit hospital’s community programmes and service improvements.
Once again held under the patronage of His Majesty, the Premier Flight was won by the Ministry of Interior and the Championship Flight by E K Kanoo 2.
Dr George presented mementoes to each of the supporters. He added: “All our hard work and effort would not amount to anything without the support of our kind benefactors.”
CrediMax provides a range of products and services for its credit card holders and merchants. In 1999, it branched out into a separate, fully-owned and independent subsidiary of BBK, one of the largest commercial banks in the kingdom. The sponsorship comes under its social responsibility umbrella and Yousif said: “We are pleased to continue to support the AMH Island Classic charity golf tournament.”
It is set to tee off on November 15, 16 & 17. GulfWeekly has already signed up to act as a media sponsor and any other companies wishing to support the initiative should contact Shama Abbas in the marketing department by calling 17177711, visiting www.amh.org.bh or emailing communications@amh.org.bh
