Ring in the New Year with a revamped and organised home, because after all, a mess-free space is the first step to an uncluttered mind which can lead to inner peace and serenity.
New York’s Kapito Muller Interior Design experts, Alyssa Kapito and Vivian Muller, suggest that this is the time to start anew and what better way than by finishing off old projects or livening up a home with shiny accessories, plants and textured furnishings.
The design duo’s advice for quick and easy updates include adding touches of greenery, art work or even fresh paint.
Keep things light and airy at home using surfaces such as velvet and leather instead of patterns.
If patterns are necessary then incorporate it in a trim or a hem. Add colour through giant art pieces and sculptures.
Instead of placing art work on the wall, why not prop it on an easel or lean it against the wall? Create a Zen area to start mornings right by surrounding a painting or sculpture with candles and other calming pieces.
Aside from playing with textures, use contrasting colours to brighten up a space. Some of the designer’s favourite pairings include sleek, polished marble with shiny faucets, modern art in traditional spaces and light woods with dark bronze finishes. Maintain walls and floors in lighter colours and add a large shaggy rug in a pale shade to make the room like even bigger. Potted flowers and plants are another great way to freshen up any room.
Some of these items can be snapped up from Middle Eastern online retailer favourite, Namshi. The 2019 line boasts two new urban trends.
The understated and earthy line features soft beige, stone grey and hints of blue decors and accessories that fall in line with the experts’ advice of keeping things light. The collection includes coffee mugs, jewellery trays, edgy stationery and tech accessories.
The modern marble line boasts clean, classic and contemporary designs. The marble pattern is subtle and can be found on cushion covers, quirky phone cases, stationery, desk top accessories and more to exude sophistication and style.
