Senior bankers and financial executives from across the region will be returning to the kingdom in March to participate in the second Electronic Payments and Online Banking Summit.

The ePAY conference will yet again highlight the best and most innovative financial and banking technologies including digital banking, FinTech, mobile wallets and internet banking.

The summit, which is held under the patronage of the Central Bank of Bahrain and of the chairmanship of Abdulkarim Bucheery, chairman of the Bahrain Bourse, will be staged at The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain on March 11 and 12 from 10am to 5pm.

Abdulkareem Bucheery, who is also the chairman of Bahrain Clear Co, the vice chairman and chairman of the Executive Committee of Ibdar Bank and vice Chairman and chairman of the Executive Committee of Khaleeji Commercial Bank, said: “The GCC’s banking sector is witnessing a remarkable transformation as well as the rising demand by its young and technology-savvy population for a better digital banking experience. With intense competition among banks within the GCC, digital banking will enhance customer life time value through better customer insights, leading to enhanced life time value and retention.

“The Electronic Payments and Internet Banking summit is a real opportunity to discuss strategies, policies and mechanisms and then devise practical proposals and solutions to develop the business environment and make it an attractive environment for internal and external investments.

“Digital payments continue to close the gap on cash across the GCC which has some of the highest mobile penetration rates in the world but is yet to embrace mobile payments. Governments are easing banking regulations to attract a wider client base that may not typically use banking services.”

The conference series, organised by London-based EastMed Limited in partnership with Bahrain Bourse and Bahrain Banking Association, will feature an array of speakers, more than 400 senior financial and banking executives from more than 20 countries as well as 50 plus solution providers.

The speakers will include managers and directors from the banking, FinTech, e-commerce, retail and telecommunication fields covering all matters related to payments, including FinTech, EMV chip technology, wallets and contactless payments.

Speakers will also share their in-depth experiences on a range of topics including innovation, usability and customer adoption, cyber-security, e-payments infrastructure and regulation along with technological disruption and innovation in the payment landscape. The sessions will shed light on the new era of a big data driven financial sector, customer centricity, the opportunity and challenges of digital transformation on Islamic FinTech, blockchain as a tool for security and collaboration, the next step for mobile payments and the role of automation as the first point of contact for the customer.

Short demos will be showcased during the summit and there will be roundtable discussions designed to provide a platform for dialogue on key topics.

Leading international banks and organisations participating in the 2019 edition will include Lloyds Banking Group, Citi Bank, Credit Suisse, Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority, Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), Al Baraka Banking Group, Gulf International bank (GIB), Ithmaar Bank and Al Salam Bank.
